DirecTV and YES to Air MLB Games in 3-D

May 05, 2010

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Those who loved the movie Avatar will be, no doubt, enthused about the new 3-D television programs and actual TV’s coming out now that will offer 3-D capabilities full-time in the home.

But will other consumers like this same type of viewing capabilities, like say, baseball fanatics?

Apparently, DirecTV (News - Alert) and the Yankees Entertainment and Sports, or “YES,” network think so, because they collaborate is planning on televising what they claim will be the first Major League Baseball games in the 3-D viewing quality.

Reports are surfacing that the first game to be aired in 3-D will be the New York Yankees versus Seattle Mariners games on July 10 and 11.

Only viewers with 3-D TV sets will be able to watch in 3-D, but the games will be available in HD as well.

So, those watching in New York, Connecticut, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Montana and Idaho will have to watch for Sabathia’s curveball. Literally.
