Harris Corporation, a communications and information technology company, announced that it has donated $10,000 USD to help sponsor the upcoming 24th Annual ‘National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic’ event, which is to be held from March 28 to April 2 in Snowmass Village, Colorado.

According to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic is an annual event that enables severely disabled veterans to participate in therapeutic recreational activities, thereby encouraging them as well as building confidence to overcome profound disabilities.

Co-sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the sports clinic promotes rehabilitation by instructing veterans with disabilities in adaptive Alpine and Nordic skiing, and also introduces them to various other adaptive recreational activities and sports. It provides veterans with disabilities with an opportunity and provides access to test their new-found abilities and develop new lifestyle skills.

The Winter Sports Clinic event is open to U.S. military veterans with qualifying disabilities such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic amputations, visual impairments, certain neurological conditions and other disabilities. Precisely, Veterans with an inpatient or outpatient status with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and active duty military servicemen and women are eligible to participate.

In 2009, more than 350 veterans participated at the event. This year, nearly 400 disabled veterans are expected to participate, according to US VA.

Apart from winter sports skills, all participants can take part in a variety of workshops and educational sessions at the event that will positively impact their rehabilitative journey and readjustment in their communities.

"The Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic creates an environment of promise for our wounded warriors," said Jim Traficant, vice president of Harris Healthcare Solutions. "Every day, these veterans and their families must conquer the challenges of sacrifices they made in service to our nation.
