Ice Bears, Comcast Introduce New Way to Watch Hockey Games

January 12, 2012

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Wishing to provide superior entertainment to hockey fans for the remainder of its winning 10th anniversary season, Knoxville Ice Bears Professional Hockey Team has partnered with Comcast (News - Alert) to launch innovative broadcast technology.

"This technology allows us to do something we haven't done before in Knoxville. Comcast is very pleased to partner with the Ice Bears to bring home games live to fans around the region," said Valerie Gillespie , area vice president and general manager for Comcast, in a press release.

Beginning with its January 13 home game, the Ice Bears will be broadcast live from the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. This is only the beginning however, as many more live high definition games are expected to follow.

Although AmericaOne has been streaming these games over the internet for quite some time, this is the first time that Comcast subscribers will be able to enjoy this new functionality.

Loch & Key Productions, a local film and television production company, will provide the necessary video production services needed for the live broadcasts. The company has been providing production services for the Ice Bears for five seasons and enters the sixth with the intention of enticing more people to watch the game.

Mike Murray , president and general manager of the Knoxville Ice Bears regarded the partnership as a victory for the fans and appeared excited about the new possibilities it opened up for the Ice Bears Hockey teams.

In related news, the Knoxville Ice Bears established a brand new fan-based video campaign through YouTube (News - Alert). The Knoxville Ice Bears are looking for fans to submit their videos congratulating the Knoxville Ice Bears as the team enters their 10th season of play.
