Home Run for Blue Jays Fans

August 02, 2011

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Rogers Communications (News - Alert) Inc. has hit a fastball out of the park by streaming live Toronto Blue Jays games for Blue Jays fans. Now, Rogers customers can watch free Rogers Sportsnet coverage for the rest of the 2011 season, through Rogers On Demand Online and Rogers On Demand Mobile.

With this announcement, Jays fans can essentially watch their favorite team from anywhere - on TV, their laptops, or watch the live stream from their smartphones.

"Canadians are dedicated Blue Jays fans,” said David Purdy, vice president, Video Products, Rogers Communications Inc.  “Rogers is giving customers a triple play with three ways to ways to tune into the live games wherever they choose to watch - on TV, online and on their smartphones. Now, customers all over the country are the first to be able to take the game with them anywhere they are and never miss a second of exciting baseball."

Since the Montreal Expos left in 2004, the Blue Jays remain the only Canadian team playing in Major League Baseball. The team has not made the playoffs since 1993, but viewership has increased by more than 23 percent from the 2010 season to 2011. Rogers’ decision to stream live games can only enhance viewership.

"Today is a win for Blue Jays fans all across our great country," said Paul Beeston, president and CEO, Toronto Blue Jays. "Making our games available with Rogers On Demand Online and Rogers on Demand Mobile, in addition to Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet Radio FAN 590, gives our great fans the ability to never miss a pitch, hit or home run."

Starting today, customers can visit rogersondemand.com and sign-up for Rogers On Demand coverage of the Blue Jays, with no extra fee. The Blue Jays only have 54 games remaining, so now is the time to take advantage of the free stream.

Customers can begin watching the live streams tonight as the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Blue Jays need some wins as they are currently 11.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East, and 10.5 games back of the New York Yankees in the Wild Card race.
