Under the Australian Trade Commission’s Australian Visiting Researcher Program, Professor Pamm Kellett, an eminent researcher from Melbourne’s Deakin University, recently visited India on June 20 to 24, 2011. The visit was aimed at showcasing innovative Australian research and world-class education, and exploring opportunities to collaborate with India in the field of Sport. Australian Education International (AEI) in New Delhi co-sponsored the program along with Australian Trade Commission.

Professor Kellett undertook a range of meetings and lectures with India’s several sporting associations educational institutions, schools and corporate bodies such as the Sports Authority of India (SAI (News - Alert)) from New Delhi, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences (IGIPESS) from New Delhi, the Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Science from New Delhi, the Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports (NSNIS) from Patiala and the Cricket India Academy from Mumbai, which runs Cricket Australia designed Cricket Education Program for India.

Dr. Kellett was also scheduled to discuss future collaboration with Indian academics and to meet with the media and relevant public and private organizations involved in sports from the grass-roots through to the elite level.

As part of the Australian Visiting Researcher program, a Seminar on “Sports Management as a Career” was organized by the Australian Trade Commissionand Sports Education Development India Ltd on June 23, 2011 at the GD Somani Memorial School in Mumbai.

The program gave out an idea about the opportunities for postgraduate education in Australia in the areas of sports management, sports science, sports technology, coaching and youth development. Australian institutions have around 3,400 academic and research collaboration agreements with partner institutions in other countries. Through these collaborations and networks, the postgraduate researchers gain access to international resources and facilities, the latest developments in their field of specialization and the opportunity to build career-shaping relationships.

"Sport is a rapidly developing industry in India and alongside the professionalism on field there is also a growing need for qualified sports management professionals to effectively administer sporting associations, events and sports programs. In an effort to combine business with sports, the Australian Trade Commission had introduced its already successful networking, Business Club Australia (BCA) to New Delhi Commonwealth Games. The innovative networking sought to connect businesses from Australia and the host nation during the Commonwealth Games.
