February 16, 2011

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

The Tennis Channel was able to broadcast the coverage of the Australian Open 2011 across the United States through Global Crossing (News - Alert) Genesis Solutions’ on-site special event transmission services.

Global Crossing’s Genesis Solutions offers fully integrated services, including standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) video transmission paths, high-definition frame rate conversion and multiple Ethernet data circuits, in addition to a combination of MPEG2 and MPEG4 compression technologies, for the Tennis Channel.

According to Global Crossing sources, all services were network protected, diversely routed end-to-end, and monitored and managed by Global Crossing Genesis Solutions’ on-site technical support. It was also managed by Genesis Solutions Network Operation Center and network engineering teams.

In a release, Larry Meyers, senior vice president of production and executive producer for the Tennis Channel, said, “Global Crossing's stable, consistent service during the Australian Open enabled our production team to bring Tennis Channel viewers the second-to-none tournament coverage they expect.”

“Whether it’s one of tennis’ Grand Slam competitions, the World Series, Olympics or any of the other championship events in sports, there are always seemingly endless moving pieces to deal with when you’re talking about live television.  Knowing that the Global Crossing infrastructure was behind the Genesis system gave us even more confidence to focus our attention where it belonged -- on bringing the sights and sounds of Melbourne to millions of American televisions on the other side of the planet,” Meyers added.

Jeff Hallman, director of international event services at Global Crossing Genesis Solutions, revealed that Tennis Channel strives to deliver round-the-clock high-quality and HD coverage of premier sporting events.

Hallman added, “We’re proud to be providing them the global network they need to make good on that commitment to their viewers. Regardless of the event, Global Crossing Genesis Solutions offers top-tier broadcasters unparalleled global network support and special events expertise.”

Global Crossing Genesis Solutions specializes in offering rich-media and video-based solutions to major broadcasters, producers and aggregators of specialized programming across the globe.  Global Crossing Genesis Solutions’ global customer base includes sports networks, news broadcasters, sports rights holders, news agencies and international broadcasters.

The company recently announced the establishment of a Point of Presence (PoP) in Istanbul for providing multinational enterprises in the region with extended global network service.
