Stratagem Awarded KTP Grant with UCL

LONDON, April 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

KTP project aims to boost understanding of football player interactions and individual player value

Stratagem Technologies and University College London (UCL) have been awarded the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) grant to add a new, differentiated strand to Stratagem's analytical arsenal with a focus on individual football players and their interactions.

The Partnership will enable Stratagem to tap into UCL's extensive knowledge base and employ a dedicated PhD level researcher (KTP Associate) to produce unique IP at the forefront of sports analytics research. The KTP Associate will be supervised jointly by Dr. Ricardo Silva (Lecturer, Department of Statistical Science, UCL) and Dr. Paolo Puggioni (Quantitative Researcher, Stratagem Technologies).

Dr. Paolo Puggioni commented: "The KTP award is an important milestone as it formalises our long-standing relationship with UCL. Since inception, Stratagem has embraced an open collaboration model with several UK universities and this takes things to the next level."

The main objective of the KTP project is to create a universal, scalable solution for analysing player interaction and impact of individual players on team performance, which will benefit all aspects of Stratagem's business model, envisioned as an 'investment bank for the sports predictins market'.

The field of sports analytics has seen exponential growth in recent years. With initiatives like this, ambitious new entrants like Stratagem hope to not only stay ahead of but shift the curve.

Dr. Ricardo Silva concludes: "What we liked about this particular project is that it balances academic ambition with commercial feasibility. Stratagem presented a compelling opportunity to carry over the latest in statistical modelling to something that could be immediately put to the market."
