This multistate competition challenges high school students to dream up the coolest inventions to make their own life, community or even the world, more awesome. To qualify, students must show how science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) can bring their idea to life. The competition, now in its second year, drew ideas from 165 young innovators across the country. Regional finalists representing five of Bright House Networks service areas were selected to compete at the national competition. From apps and gadgets to health, wellness, nature, transportation and more, they created a rich array of bright ideas to make our world a better place. After months of preparation, the following students have earned their spots as the 2016 Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth Finalists:
"Congratulations to our finalists and to all students who participated in this year's program!" said Kimberly Maki, corporate vice president, corporate communications and public relations, Bright House Networks. "Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth is about taking an idea and developing it into an innovation, which in turn could become a reality. Our regional competitions were extremely close. We have been truly inspired by these incredible students and the creativity and scope of their Bright Ideas." The Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth Finalist Pitch Event will take place on March 2, 2016, at the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center's Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater in Orlando. Students will compete head-to-head on TV, in front of a studio audience. They will have no more than six minutes to pitch their ideas to a panel of experts, who will select one lucky winner. The program will be recorded and available via Video on Demand (VOD) on Bright House Networks. The Grand Prize winner will have the chance to work with leading, Orlando-based product and technology innovation firm Astralis Group to build a virtual prototype and business plan to help bring the student's Bright Idea to life.
