Alaska Communications and Iditarod Rookie Becca Moore Honor Lifetime Dream at Iditarod XLIII

Alaska Communications (News - Alert) (NASDAQ:ALSK), Alaska's leading broadband and IT solutions provider, will sponsor 2015 Iditarod™ rookie racer Becca Moore at Iditarod XLIII.

Moore, 43, has long dreamt of running in Iditarod, known as "the toughest race on Earth," covering more than 1,000 miles across Alaska's most challenging terrain. Moore and husband, Iditarod veteran Ramey Smyth, own and operate Smyth Racing Team Homestretch Kennel, a professional sled dog racing kennel. Alaska Communications has proudly sponsored Smyth Racing Team since 2012.

For years, the couple focused on Smyth's racing career while Becca helped raise their two children and train their dogs. Smyth's career includes wining the Kuskokwim 300, Tustemena 200 three times, Knik 200 four times, Jr. Iditarod twice and Sheep Creek classic twice. He has placed among the top 20 Iditarod finishers 17 times in a row. Smyth is now focused on supporting Moore in her role as rookie Iditarod racer.

Moore began sled dog racing in 2000 and is a veteran of the 2009 Yukon Quest andseveral 200 and 300 mile races.

According to Moore, "I've long dreamt of not just training sled dogs for Iditarod, but of actually running with them. The Iditarod trail presents some of the most unique and challenging obstacles. It takes dedication, teamwork and perseverance even to train for such a race. Ramey and I wanted a partner that holds these same values; we found that in Alaska Communications. Alaska Communications' support has allowed me to pursue my dream."

"Alaska Communications is proud to be a major sponsor of Iditarod rookie, Becca Moore. Becca's commitment to her dogs, her sport and the Iditarod is to be admired. We look forward to a long partnership with one of Alaska's premier racing teams," Eric Lazo, Alaska Communications vice president of product management and marketing, said.

The Iditarod's ceremonial start takes place Saturday, March 7, in Anchorage. The restart takes place Monday, March 9, in Fairbanks.
