University of Miami School of Education and Human Development Launches Fully Online Master's Degree Program in Sport Administration

CORAL GABLES, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

The University of Miami School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) is accepting applications for a fully online version of its highly regarded master's degree program in Sport Administration. The program is designed for working professionals, either those currently in the sport industry or those looking to transition into the industry. Inaugural tuition reductions and merit scholarships of up to 30 percent are available for qualified applicants.

The online master's in Sport Administration program, just as the on-campus version, will emphasize the business aspects of sport and research. It will focus on topics such as sport marketing, event management, leadership and ethics, sport finance, sport law, and sport communications. Graduates have entered a variety of careers related to the management and business of sport, working for university athletics departments, major collegiate athletic conferences, professional teams such as the San Antonio Spurs and Baltimore Orioles, sports media and apparel companies like Adidas, not to mention coaching and other sports administration positions. The course content of the two prorams is the same. The only major difference is the delivery mode.

The online program will also be taught by the same highly respected faculty, all of whom have strong scholarly credentials as well as extensive and diverse practical experience in the sport industry. Their work has been cited in over 600 scholarly publications and over 130 articles in the popular press such as Forbes and the Huffington Post (News - Alert). Heading up the program is Warren A. Whisenant, Ph.D., professor and coordinator for the Sport Administration Program, while core faculty include Windy Dees, Alicia Jessop, Tywan Martin and Sue Mullane.

The first opportunity to enroll will be in January 2015, and the 30-credit program can be completed in less than two years. Online program tuition is comparable to the university's on-campus rate and inaugural tuition reductions and merit scholarships of up to 30% are available for qualified applicants.

Admission requirements for the online program include a bachelor's degree from an accredited university and a strong interest in sport. Although students may enter directly after completing an undergraduate degree, three to five years of post-baccalaureate work experience is preferred. Applicants are also expected to take the GRE, but this requirement may be waived in light of work experience.

For more information about the program's curriculum, visit online.miami.edu or call 1-800-411-2290.

The University is also offering a fully online Master's in Finance program, which also launches in January in the School of Business Administration.

These programs are pending approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the University's accreditor. The University will manage these online programs with support from Laureate Partners, a unit of Laureate Education that offers universities a customized approach to expand their reach online and around the world.
