Jarrard Phillips Cate & Hancock, Inc., Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee Announce Partnership

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --(Business Wire)--

National healthcare communications and public affairs firm Jarrard Phillips Cate & Hancock, Inc. and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, a nonprofit dedicated to feeding the underserved and solving hunger issues in the local community, have announced a collaboration to develop partnership models with Nashville's healthcare community.

With reform and market drivers changing the way healthcare is delivered, providers are shifting toward population health management, increased access to care, coordination and holistic patient care. This shift presents opportunities for Second Harvest, with the strategic guidance of Jarrard, to create innovative models with healthcare partners who recognize the value of food as medicine.

"We're honored to partner with Second Harvest," said Molly Cate, partner at Jarrard Inc. who has led this effort for the firm. "With the relationships and familiarity we have in the healthcare community - particularly here in Nashville, the healthcare capital of America - we're looking forward to leveraging this partnership to help Second Harvest meet its mission in new, exciting ways."

This spring, Jarrard and Second Harvest organized a meeting of healthcare dvisors and executives from the area to discuss mutually beneficial ways to serve the communities of Middle Tennessee. Specifically, the meetings served to explore innovative healthcare partnership models with the potential to help provider organizations address issues such as medication adherence, disease-specific packages for the chronically ill, nutritional guidelines and wellness. The organizations expect to select an advisory committee, made up of members from the initial meetings, later this year.

"Our goal at Second Harvest is to help the nearly 400,000 people in Middle Tennessee who don't know where their next meal will come from," said Jaynee Day, president and CEO of Second Harvest. "With the way healthcare is evolving, there's a tremendous opportunity for us to take our existing healthcare relationships to the next level. We are grateful to partner with Jarrard, which is uniquely positioned to work with local healthcare organizations, to identify where their missions overlap with ours."

As it explores further strategic options, Second Harvest currently operates a successful hospital pantry out of Saint Thomas Hickman Hospital, in addition to established food-as-medicine programs at Maury and Sumner regional medical centers.

Second Harvest distributed 27,756,672 pounds of food in the last fiscal year, providing more than 23 million meals to hungry children, families and seniors throughout the organization's 46-county service area.
