SOUL Electronics and Olympic Champion Usain Bolt Partner Up for New Run-Free Headphones

January 09, 2013

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

SOUL Electronics was able to catch up with the world’s fastest man to create its newest line of athletic in-ear headphones.

If you’re an athlete, or simply someone who is active and works out a lot, you’d understand the hassle of dealing with sweaty or loose headphones that never seem to stay in place. Having first-hand knowledge of how to improve headphones for performance, Bolt was able to offer up some input and advice, and became the inspiration behind SOUL’s latest release.

“Bolt was our inspiration for the Run-Free headphones.  The ‘fastest man on earth’ needs headphones that are lightweight, yet durable and sweat resistant, with excellent sound quality.  Runners sweat from either their body or their head.  In Bolt’s case- he sweats from the head.  So, we developed a headphone that would be sweat resistant and never short out,” says Lan Kennedy-Davis, CEO of SOUL Electronics USA.

The Run-Free headphones have a couple new features that will not only improve the comfort level, but also the performance of the headphones. Most over the ear headphones only come in one size, but all ears are different shapes and sizes. The Run-Free headphones offer flexible ear hooks that are completely customizable to fit all ear shapes and sizes. For a lighter and freer feel, the ear hooks can be removed.

Sweat is usually a leading factor in having headphones fall out of your ears during an activity, but SOUL counteracts the sweat problem by designing the Run-Free headphones with a sweat resistant wire cable. The wire cable also comes equipped with an inline remote, similar to the newer Apple (News - Alert) headphones, that allows the user to have full control of the music playing.

“The Run-Free definitely gives the athlete the freedom and confidence to stay active without worrying about ruining their headphones,” Kennedy-Davis added.
