Reebok, Echo Nest, and Spotify Team Up to Create Pitch-Perfect Workout Playlists

September 24, 2012

Anyone who has ever spent grueling hours on the treadmill knows how difficult it can be to find the motivation to workout. With the redundant nature of cardio, making it to an hour can be more than a little challenging.

Walk into any gym and almost everyone is hooked up to an iPod, in order to make working out more enjoyable and pass the time more quickly. What most people don’t realize is that music has been scientifically proven to increase endurance, motor skills, and aerobic performance. According to Echo Nest, “choosing the right songs is almost as important as including any songs at all.”

Anyone who has ever attempted to keep up with beat of a fast-paced song like “Ring My Bell” can attest to the fact that song selection does, indeed, matter. Listening to Christopher Cross may be enjoyable but will not do anything to improve athletic performance.

Echo Nest is teaming up with Reebok and Spotify (News - Alert) to fulfill the need for carefully-chosen workout soundtracks through a new application, Reebok FitList. The FitList will perfectly match the music to the style of workout, the intensity level of the workout, and the length of time of the workout.

With over 17 million songs in Spotify’s music catalogue, there is a lot to draw from, whether you’re jogging, running, or doing yoga. In addition to pitch-perfect workout soundtracks, users can also workout like their favorite celebrity or athlete through the workout song lists created by Reebok, athletes, and celebrities.

For anyone who has found themselves less-than-motivated to go to the gym, Reebok FitList may just be the motivation that they need to get them back in the swing of things. This new venture will, undoubtedly, make working out less tedious and more enjoyable, as well as increasing the performance of its users.
