Goal.com, the world’s largest soccer website, is coming to app world thanks to PERFORM, the digital sports media company that acquired the website earlier this year. PERFORM is partnering with Nokia (News - Alert) and Microsoft to launch across both WindowsPhone and Symbian-powered smartphones, according to the press release

Goal.com’s website states the mobile app will feature live scores, match details, team schedules, standings and 24/7 news coverage. The app is now available for download and free to all smartphone users. Currently, the app can be accessed on platforms such as Nokia (S60 5th edition), iPhone, BlackBerry, Android (News - Alert), PalmOS and Windows Mobile devices.

The Goal application also comes in 13 different languages including English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish, Korean, Chinese and Arabic. Upon download the application will automatically detect your preferred language and present the interface as suited to the user.

“This is an exciting development in the continued evolution of our content offering. Goal.com is an iconic brand in the world of football and PERFORM is a leading multi-platform sports content distributor,” said Mark Fletcher, director partner management and marketing for Nokia.

According to the press release, as part of the partnership, the app will be promoted globally in the Nokia Store and Microsoft (News - Alert) Workplace while PERFORM will represent the advertising sales across the applications.

In the Apple iTunes store the Goal app is already being featured for download. The description provided by Apple (News - Alert) states the app is simple and easy to navigate. “The app has updated menus, more sections than ever and is packed full of content on the world’s top tournaments such as the Champions League, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and League 1,” says the Apple description.

Goal.com has already made a name for it prior to the application launch with 21.6 million users online and 48 million page views across mobile in Nov. 2011 alone. The football giant has over 400 editorial staff in over 50 countries that contribute to the site and produce on average 1,500 news stories per day.

“This marks a very significant partnership for PERFORM. Goal.com provides a unique offering given the breadth of coverage and quality of content and by partnering with Nokia and Microsoft we are opening Goal up to millions of smartphone users, and ultimately providing exciting opportunities for brand to engage with these global mobile audiences,” said Daryn Wober, managing director mobile for PERFORM. “We hope that this will mark the start of a longer team content partnership.”
