XBoards Introduces Eco-Friendly Snowboard with Powerful Vibration-Dampening Properties

January 24, 2012

(SPORTS TECHNOLOGY)

Northern California-based snow sport technology company XBoards, Inc. has developed a new snowboard that will excite the environmentally conscious and sports enthusiasts alike. The product’s uniqueness lies in its material: BioBoard, according to its maker is the first commercially available snowboard to be made of all-natural flax fiber composites.

This eco-friendly snowboard comes with powerful shock-absorbing properties. Strong and resilient, the product adds to the rider’s comfort level, while negotiating the terrains in high altitude. According to XBoard, the product’s endurance has been validated in the engineering process to ensure maximum safety of the riser under the most adverse conditions.

Snowboarding is a sport where the selection of equipment can be crucial for the rider’s safety and XBoard claims that BioBoard has been specially designed to reduce leg fatigue – one of the major causes of fatal injuries in this sport. Based on the company’s patented FlaxFlex technology, the BioBoard ensures consistent flex across the entire length of the board and this helps prevent muscle-fatigue on the riders’ legs.

XBoard explained that flax fiber is lower in density and provides superior vibration dampening properties compared to fiberglass and carbon, the most common snowboard reinforcements. Thanks to these properties, BioBoard allows riders to navigate uneven terrain with ease and with greater speed.

The BioBoard makes use of Lineo’s flax fabric, which is 100 percent renewable and biodegradable.

“We began with a simple question – if you were starting from scratch, how would you build a board that maximized performance while minimizing environmental impact? We realized we could harness the power of this all-natural material to create a superior riding experience without sacrificing strength or sustainability,” Isaac Gradman, CEO and co-founder of XBoards, noted in a statement.

“In the coming seasons, XBoards will be rolling out innovative products that push the boundaries of snow sports in ways we haven't seen in decades. It's going to be an awesome ride,” Gradman.
