Interactive App from Tourism Vancouver Uses GPS from SatSports

Tourism Vancouver has launched an interactive mobile application, “City Smart”, to help the visitors download free application for their smartphones that brings to them a complete guide to the entire city, in the palm of their hand.
The mobile application launched by Tourism Vancouver in partnership with GPS navigation developer SatSports Ltd and Smartphone manufacturer HTC (News - Alert) is world’s first completely interactive tourist and sporting event mobile application. It has come as a boon for visitors as it provides them with all updated live tourist and event information. The application also offers an advanced GPS system that offers visitors detailed street navigation and breaking news on traffic conditions. Currently this feature is used by the Tourism Vancouver for the Winter Olympics. This mobile application can be easily downloaded from the Tourism Vancouver Web site.
“We’re excited to partner with SatSports and HTC on such a ground-breaking mobile application,” said Tourism Vancouver’s Walt Judas, vice president of Visitor Services & Communications. “With live messaging and constant updates, CitySmart is a virtual tour guide in your pocket, assisting you at every step of your trip.”
Tourism Vancouver’s new mobile application “City Smart” is equipped with the HTC smart phones to assist visitors at various locations throughout the downtown area.
Tourism Vancouver’s Walt Judas, vice president of Visitor Services & Communications is of the opinion that the new application so launched will work in the favor of Vancouver residents by helping them find reliable local information plus cab drivers and limousine services needing up-to-the minute reports on road closures, traffic blockages, locations and access points for major venues.
“This application is going to change the way host cities interact with visitors and event spectators, and HTC is excited to have our hardware showcased,” said Francois Gravel of HTC. These devices, along with this integrated mobile application, will streamline Tourism Vancouver’s interaction with tourists by assisting them in giving directions and providing event information from all its visitor centers.
The mobile application “City Smart” having in built SMS (text messaging) capabilities allows Tourism Vancouver to interact with the visitors present in any part of the city, regardless of their activity. By using this mobile application the users can receive live updates in the form of text messages that will inform them of points of interest, weather reports, traffic alerts and news flashes. Inspired by Tourism Vancouver and developed in partnership with mobile GPS navigation developer SatSports Ltd and Smartphone manufacturer HTC, the interactive application also provides transit planning and emergency service contacts, along with visitor center locations.
“SatSports has been revolutionizing sports experiences through GPS hardware and mobile applications for a number of years,” said Jean-Claude Baumgartner, Managing Director of SatSports Ltd. “With our new partnership with Tourism Vancouver, we’re going to be revolutionizing the visitor experience as well.”
