RCN Announces NBC Universal's Coverage of 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games

Broadband services provider RCN Corporation and NBC Universal (News - Alert) announced a multiplatform content offering for NBC Universal’s 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games to begin with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 12.
NBC Universal’s Olympic Winter programming will deliver more than 835 hours of unprecedented coverage to subscribers and represents the most total hours ever and the most live hours ever for a Winter Games, according to RCN (News - Alert) officials.
RCN announced it will showcase NBC’s coverage of the Winter Games across multiple digital platforms, including VOD and broadband throughout 17 consecutive days and nights, covering every sport, medal, champion and riveting moments.
The company provides all-digital and high definition video, high-speed Internet and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers, in Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, Pa., New York City, Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C., as well as high-capacity transport services to carrier and large enterprise customers.
The NBC/RCN partnership will offer extensive coverage on the networks of NBC Universal, including NBC, USA Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Universal HD and NBCOlympics.com, according to Richard Ramlall, RCN’s senior vice president, Strategic External Affairs & Programming.
The service includes on-demand highlights and full event rewinds of every sport event.
Under the Pre-Games offer, NBC/RCN offers more than 20, five- to seven-minute clips available in SD and HD.
The In Games offer includes more than 100 highlight clips, approximately 15 per day, in addition to up to five full-length daily event replays. Additionally, NBCU will offer more than 30 percent of In-Games VOD in HD, company officials said.
In December, TMCnet reported that RCN expanded its free On Demand lineup with the addition of Turner Broadcasting (News - Alert) System networks which includes Adult Swim, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, TCM, TNT and truTV.
With this service, RCN subscribers are now able to set their own viewing schedule and watch some of their favorite Turner shows whenever they want.
