Image Sensing Systems Offers Traffic Management Solution for 2010 Winter Olympic Games

Image Sensing Systems, Inc., a technology company focused in infrastructure productivity improvement through the development of software-based detection solutions for the Intelligent Transportation Systems sector and adjacent overlapping markets, reportedly announced its support to provide its RTMS G4 radars for the purpose of traffic management on the Sea to Sky Highway for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.
The Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor G4, used during the Olympic Games is the newest generation radar sensor for the detection and measurement of traffic on roadways. It is small, roadside pole-mounted radar operating in the microwave band providing per-lane presence, as well as volume, occupancy, speed and classification information in up to 12 user-defined detection zones simultaneously. It is easy and safe to install and remove without traffic disruptions or lane closures.
It also combines high resolution radar, an optional video camera capable of capturing the traffic scene, and a variety of communications options, including wireless solutions, within a single enclosure. This sleek, cabinet-free detection station is simple to integrate into any urban signal control or highway traffic management system, according to the company.
Miller-Capilano, a maintenance corporation company responsible for the operation of the highway during the Winter Olympic Games, will use RTMS G4 to monitor traffic conditions, display speed-map representation of the highway and determine travel time for commuters.
Tom Cloutier, assistant operations manager of Miller-Capilano said that the company needed a solution that was not intrusive to their highway operations and ISS offered a proven solution that was cost effective and non-intrusive. He said that the wireless component and accurate traffic reporting, in conjunction with the management software assured that they have the information for the firm’s operations and can also provide traveler information to third parties for the commuters.
