Security at major sports events is a major issue for the organizers. While organizers need to ensure total safety for players and fans, they should also take care not to overdo it and spoil the atmosphere. Hence, many organizers are now seeking the help of technology to tackle this issue.
Recently, ADC signed a contract to provide pervasive, multi-operator wireless and public safety radio services at all major sports venues and many hospitality sites in support of major upcoming activities in Vancouver. The company will make use of its InterReach Fusion and InterReach Unison (News - Alert) distributed antenna systems (DAS) to provide these services.
InterReach Fusion offers all the benefits of InterReach Unison in a multi-band solution, whereas InterReach Unison operates as a seamless extension of the public wireless network infrastructure.
Under the contract, ADC (News - Alert) will cover sites such as BC Place Stadium, GM Place, the Vancouver Convention Centre and Convention Centre West Expansion, the Richmond Oval, University of British Columbia (UBC) Winter Sports Centre, the Westin Grand Hotel, and Westin Bayshore Hotel.
“Our InterReach systems have become the preferred solutions for mobile carriers and enterprises worldwide, and we are proud to have been selected as the in-building cellular systems provider for these key venues,” said John Spindler (News - Alert), vice president of product management for ADC. “With its relatively simple deployment and ability to scale to facilities of any size, InterReach systems ensure that spectators and venue staff will receive outstanding wireless service.”
Offering service for three major Canadian mobile operators, the deployments provide uniform coverage for 700 MHz public safety and 1900MHz CDMA frequencies. ADC has extensive experience in covering large public facilities, including previous venues for major sports events such as previous Winter Games, the Super Bowl and the Ashes Cricket Series.
Recently, the company’s OmniReach Hub-in-a-Pedestal fiber distribution hub, OmniReach Passive Optical Splitter Modules, Fiber Cable Assemblies and Value-added Module VAM system have been accepted by the USDA Rural Development Telecommunications program. Program acceptance means ADC’s products will be used in the expansion of broadband services to underserved and rural communities, the company stated.
