January 22, 2010

(OLYMPICS TECHNOLOGY)
Traveling to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games may not be a difficult task if you are technology savvy.

In fact, a few select, technologically aware people will be traveling to Vancouver very soon as Samsung Electronics has announced the global winners of its Samsung (News - Alert) Mobile Explorers contest. These winners will share their personal experiences and observations through social media and online posts to Samsung’s Web site for the 2010 Winter Games.

Samsung’s involvement with Olympic Games dates back to Seoul 1988, where the company extended its commitment to the Olympic Movement as the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category.

In the upcoming Olympics, these winners will make use of the latest Samsung mobile phones and capture their unique “WOW” moments and extraordinary Olympic Games stories through daily text messaging and online posts. Ten students from Beijing, China, who experienced the excitement of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were chosen as Samsung Mobile Explorers.

“The Olympic Games are about bringing the global community together through the spirit of friendly competition and the celebration of different cultures,” said Gyehyun Kwon, vice president and head of Worldwide Sports Marketing, Samsung Electronics. “Through our Mobile Explorers, we want to capture that spirit with our mobile phone technology and share it with people around the world. We are guaranteed plenty of WOW moments in Vancouver.”

To be one of the 57 Samsung Mobile Explorers, about 7,500 people entered the contest. All Explorers will be flown to Vancouver and provided with accommodation for 20 nights, meals and Samsung mobile phones to share their Olympic Games’ WOW moments. The Explorers will cover a number of events, including Olympic events.

Recently, the company launched its Samsung Product Support TV initiative. SPSTV is an Internet-based, live streaming television “channel” produced and hosted by Samsung that will feature a lineup of live shows, how-to videos, and interactive chat sessions that will offer customers a way to improve their understanding of their Samsung products, announced Samsung.
