Canadian Tech Start Up YBuy Launches Online Recreational Equipment Rental Marketplace

Explore The Opportunities

EDMONTON, Alberta, Aug. 21, 2018 /CNW/ -- YBuy announced earlier today the launch of a new peer-to-peer rental marketplace specializing in the recreational power sports and equipment rental industry.

Rent or lend all types of recreational equipment from Boats, to ATVs, Snowmobiles, RVs, and more. Our team is focused on building a community of users dedicated to escaping their everyday.

The start-up was founded to answer a big question posed by many people: "How do I enjoy the outdoors without the prohibitive cost of equipment ownership?" Renters are enabled to access toys that generally sit idle a large portion of the year at a reasonable price. Owners, on the other hand, can list equipment and put valuable dollars back in their pockets from traditionally costly assets such as Boats, Personal Watercraft, ATVs, Travel Trailers, Dirt Bikes, and more.

"We identified a demand for an aggregated rental platform that reduces the time and cost of renting out items like boats, RVs, off-road vehicles and motorcycles," said Co-Founder and CEO, Keiran Klotz. "Our team is building the go-to solution for facilitating peer-to-peer recreational equipment rentals. With a seamless online experience and easy to use interface, we are re-imagining the recreational equipment marketplace. There is a great opportunity here, for both equipment owners and potential renters.

The sharing economy has expanded exponentially since the emergence of platforms like Airbnb and Uber. A shift is occurring in consumer mindsets from the traditional thought process of ownership to a forward-thinking approach of access and cooperation between two parties. PwC predicts the market will go from $15 billion in 2013 to $355 billion in 2025[1].

"Keiran pitched the idea and I honestly was shocked a marketplace solution had not already been created for the recreational equipment industry," said other Co- Founder and COO, Ryan Laidlaw. "I saw the value in this concept immediately. The opportunity to re-invent the lender to renter relationship is incredibly exciting. We are bridging the gap between two parties that until now were essentially disconnected."

The team looks to launch the next generation rental platform with a focus on user experience and seamless online platform interaction. "I came up with the idea based on owning my own equipment rental company and not being able to find a simple online solution to reach potential clients. There is no straightforward way to manage requests, bookings, and payment transactions in the rental space, especially for smaller operations," commented Keiran.

The team is focused on building a community of users dedicated to escaping their everyday, creating a way to put money back in the bank accounts of equipment owners, and an affordable option for those trying to rent.
