Orthopaedic Institute for Children to Host Herbert H. Stark, M.D., Memorial Lecture January 24 in Los Angeles

The 27th annual Herbert H. Stark, M.D., Memorial Lecture, focused on anatomic principles in the modern care of disease and injury to the hand, will be held January 24 in Los Angeles. The lecture, sponsored by the Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) and the Orthopaedic Institute for Children's Foundation, is specifically designed for orthopaedic, plastic, hand and general surgeons as well as hand therapists and other healthcare providers interested in problems of the upper extremity.

Featured guest lecturer will be Donald Bae, M.D., assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and associate professor in orthopaedic surgery at Harvard Medical School. The lectures will be held in two sessions: a morning session at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center discussing "upper extremity fracture malunions in children" and "osteochondritis dissecans of the capitellum" and an evening lecture and dinner at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center discussing "surgical simulation in orthopaedic surgery."

A member of the Boston Children's Hospital since 2004, Dr. Bae currently cares for a variety of congenital, traumatic, acquired and sports-related conditions of the hand and upper limb in pediatic patients. His clinical research has included congenital and post-traumatic upper limb reconstruction, sports-related conditions of the upper limb in adolescents, and brachial plexus birth palsy.

The lectures are named in honor of Herbert H. Stark, M.D., an internationally known orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon who devoted his professional life to the development and education of physicians interested in the surgery of the hand. Throughout his professional career Dr. Stark lectured extensively on the management of the problems of the hand, and his countless humanitarian services earned him many honors and awards from his community and the respect of both grateful parents and fellow physicians.

Physicians attending the January 24 lectures can obtain up to three AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits at no cost. There is no charge to attend, but donations may be sent to the Orthopaedic Institute for Children's Foundation. Further information, including registration, is obtained by contacting OIC's medical education office at 213-742-1122 or at [email protected].
