RC21X Receives Investment From Stadia Ventures

CORAOPOLIS, Penn., April 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Stadia Ventures, the St. Louis-based sports business accelerator, announced today that it was investing in RC21X and its platforms for monitoring brain performance. RC21X is one of five companies selected for Stadia's Spring 2017 Cohort and an investment of up to $100,000 in exchange for an undisclosed equity stake. The accelerator received nearly 200 applications from around the world for this most recent class.

"We're very excited about this investment and the partnership opportunities it brings," says RC21X CEO Clarence Carlos. "Stadia has assembled an impressive portfolio over the years. The mentoring and coaching that comes with this selection is going to help us to be a better performing company for our investors and for our customers."

Stadia Accelerator helps established sports business startups get to the next level through the combination of up to a $100,000 equity investment, intensive mentoring, and connecting founders to the top sports business executives in the country. Stadia leverages its network of industry executives that includes senior leadership at teams, leagues, sponsors, manufacturers, marketers, investors and business service representatives.

RC21X and the mobile app Roberto are based on pen-and-paper tests that have been used for decades to monitor neurocognitive and neuro-motor performance. Each session produces a unique Brain Performance Profile—a set of scores that provides objective data on brain performance. Users can monitor the effects of those changes in real time, allowing the opportunity to have more meaningful conversations with healthcare providers if their performance shows a downward trend.

The other new startups in Stadia's portfolio are based in the Los Angeles area and in Israel:

  • Reely (Santa Monica, Ca.) developed a platform that uses artificial intelligence to detect highlights in sports broadcasts.
  • Kadho Sports (Irvine, Ca.) created cognitive training tools for athletes to help them make fster, more accurate decisions.
  • VNTANA (Los Angeles) offers sports-related holographic experiences.
  • Pico.Buzz (Haifa, Israel) provides branded social media messaging during sporting events.

Founders from the companies will travel to St. Louis, Chicago and Baltimore for six weeks of three-day business boot camps. During that time the startups are immersed in Stadia's business development accelerator and surrounded with some of the best sports business talent in the world. Speakers include representatives from the St. Louis Cardinals, UnderArmour, U.S. Soccer, Gatorade and Wilson, among other sports heavy hitters. The program culminates with an event on June 21 where the companies will present their products for an audience of potential investors and partners as well as the media.

"With the coaching and support we get through this program, we're going to be able to help a lot of people," says Carlos. "Our tools will allow athletes and their families to have unprecedented access to objective data on their brain performance. Armed with that data, they can make better decisions regarding their brain health."
