Fiber Science Expert Juan Hinestroza joins CycloPure's Scientific Advisory Team

ENCINITAS, Calif., April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- CycloPure, Inc. announced today that Juan Hinestroza, Director of the Textiles Nanotechnology Laboratory at Cornell University, has joined the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Hinestroza is a U.S. Fulbright Scholar and leading expert in fiber science technologies. He is a co-inventor of the company's process to functionalize fabrics with its breakthrough adsorption technology.

Professor Hinestroza's work has been featured in a broad array of scientific and media publications. He presents at conferences around the world on his pioneering work in the development of "smart textiles," and was a featured speaker at the Sports Technology Symposium hosted by FC Barcelona in November 2016. Later this year, Juan will speak at the French Open Sports Innovation Forum at Roland Garros, and will discuss clean technologies in manufacturing as a keynote speaker at this year's World Fashion Convention in Rio de Janeiro.

"We are thrilled to have Dr. Hinestroza join our team. We are fortunate to have all three co-inventors of the company's technology leading our development efforts:  co-founder Will Dichtel in synthetic chemistry/polymer design, Damian Helbling in analytic chemistry/water treatment and Dr. Hinestroza in process chemistry/fiber science," stated CEO Frank Cassou. "Our efforts to cmmercialize the company's functionalized fabric technology will greatly benefit from Juan's relationship with leading apparel and textile companies."

The company's functionalized fabric process was announced last Fall in a paper detailing the company's ability to bond its adsorbent polymer materials into textiles. See "Cotton Fabric Functionalized with a ß-Cyclodextrin Polymer Captures Organic Pollutants from Contaminated Air and Water," published online in Chemistry of Materials.

Using this process, the company is able to embed its highly adsorbent materials into textiles and functionalize the resulting fabrics.  This enhancement greatly expands the use of the company's adsorption technology to remove VOCs and contaminants from water and air, enabling the development of innovative textiles and fiber materials, such as odor controlling fabrics, respirators and other protective materials.

CycloPure is applying breakthrough adsorption technology to make water resources safe from contamination by micropollutants.  Advanced analytics have shown that organic compounds in nanogram concentration, including industrial chemicals, pesticides and pharmaceutical residues, are pervasive in water and retain toxic effect.

The company has developed and is commercializing two lead material formulations, TFN-CDP and DFB-CDP, for the removal of harmful contaminants from water, including the perfluorinated compounds PFOA and PFOS. The company's advanced adsorption materials can be incorporated into a variety of water treatment and filtration products for domestic, industrial, hospital and municipal applications.

The company is also applying its technology to functionalize fabrics to remove VOCs and unwanted compounds, enabling the development of innovative textiles and fiber materials, such as odor controlling fabrics, respirators and other protective materials.
