Charities to Benefit from Poker "Grudge Match" at SugarHouse

The highly publicized Twitter (News - Alert)-war-turned-poker-"Grudge Match" has added a competitive twist and two charities will benefit from the event.

The heads-up match between Mike Dentale and Cate Hall will now spotlight Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM), represented by Dentale, and Hall's chosen charity, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 and can be seen live on www.Twitch.com/PokerNightTV. The match will also be recorded for television by "Poker Night in America" (PNIA) to air in May on the CBS Sports Network.

"The charitable element of the 'Grudge Match' at SugarHouse will help raise money and awareness for two great causes," said Matt Glantz, poker room ambassador at SugarHouse Casino.

The charities will be prominently featured during a live stream of the competition. Viewers will be asked to donate in real-time as Dentale and Hall look for bragging rights both in fundraising and with their poker skills.

CVIM is a volunteer clinic that provides free medical care to low-income families in the Philadelphia area, while CPJ is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide. In addition to the live stream, both charities will be featured on the PNIA broadcast later this year.

"Grudge Match," Tale of the Tape

The heads-up "Grudge Match" will be a best-of-three series to determine the winner. Hall and Dentale will each begin with $15,000 with blinds starting at $75-$150. If any game reaches two hours of play, the blinds will increase to $150-$300.

The tale of the tape:

  • Cate Hall burst onto the poker scene with her first career cash in 2015, and since then she has earned three World Poker Tour (WPT) main event final tables. She also has $871,000 in total live earnings, including seven WSOP cashes.
  • Mike Dentale has won four tournaments to go along with 10 WSOP cashes. He has won $1.4 million in total live earnings.

The PNIA stage will be set up across from the SugarHouse Casino Market Place, near the "Poker Night in America" Poker Room. The "Grudge Match" is open to spectators; all guests must be 21 years of age or older.
