Affiliated Workers Association Awards Scholarships to Member DependentsThe Affiliated Workers Association (AWA), a national, non-profit network of professionals, small business owners and the self-employed dedicated to providing quality benefits and services to the American worker, has awarded scholarships to two member dependents. Sierra Clemetson, daughter of AWA member Cheryl Price of Flossmoor, Illinois, and Debra Henke, daughter of AWA member Kathe Henke of Glen Allen, Virginia, have each been awarded $2,500. Sierra has just finished her first year at the University of Missouri where she will return this fall as a sophomore. Her double majors are Communication Science Disorders and International Studies. Her family has lived in Flossmoor for a decade. "I hope to go on to graduate school, then work in South America," said Sierra. "This scholarship will help me reach those goals." Debra just graduated from Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School. She has lived in Glen Allen all her life. She plans to attend Hollins University, one of the oldest institutions of higher education for women in the United States, well known for its writing programs. "I want to purse my PhD in clinical psychology and work with adolescents and teens," said Debra. "I'm looking forward to the small community that Hollins provides, close relationships with professors, soccer and swimming sport teams, and lifelong friendships. This scholarship helps me get closer to my dreams." "The AWA strives to invest in the future of its members and families," said Neil Peterson, president of the AWA Board of Directors. "There is no better way to support our members and their dependents than to help them pursue their college educations." The scholarships were open to active AWA members between the ages of 18 and 28, as well as legal dependents between the ages of 16 and 28. The students selected are both dependents of members. Consideration was based on academic performance and teacher/supervisor recommendations. College First Foundation is the third-party administrator for the scholarship program.
