Basho Continues Momentum in 2015 with Second Strongest Quarter Ever

SEATTLE, Aug. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Basho Technologies, the creator and developer of Riak®, the industry-leading distributed NoSQL database software, today announced that the company experienced its second strongest quarter in its history, setting it up for explosive growth during the rest of 2015. Basho drove bookings growth by 226 percent in Q2 2015 versus Q2 2014, and more than doubled bookings YTD compared to the same timeframe last year. The company also grew customer acquisitions by 50 percent over the previous quarter.

"The demand for NoSQL technologies is skyrocketing as enterprises seek to minimize the complexities and optimize the opportunities associated with the growth of unstructured data," said Adam Wray, CEO, Basho. "Basho's rapid customer growth, expanding partnerships and strong growth in revenue is a testament to this growing demand. We plan to build on this momentum as we carry into the second half of 2015 by capitalizing on what's resonating with enterprises – the operational simplicity of both Riak and the recently launched Basho Data Platform."

Customer Expansion Fuels Growth

Enterprise companies across the globe are using Basho to simplify their most critical data management challenges and capitalize on the rich opportunities to be had in leveraging unstructured data. To continue delivering on that demand, Basho announced the Basho Data Platform® in Q2 2015, the first data platform for building big data applications for active workloads. The Basho Data Platform is architected for public, private and hybrid clouds, and simplifies the development and operations of distributed big data applications – enabling high availability, scalability and operational simplicity for enterprises. The platform integrates the deployment of big data application components and complementary technologies such as Apache Spark, Redis and Apache Solr.

With technological advancements such as the Basho Data Platform, Basho continues to increase traction with new and existing customers including The Weather Company, Bluestem, Chartbeat, and more.  A new OEM agreement was reached with Kolab Systems (see blog), and the Basho reseller ntwork expanded into Spain with the signing of Indizen Technologies. The sports social network Sqor joined Basho's customer base and selected Riak KV as its foundational database. Sqor works with the world's largest sports franchises and more than 2,000 athletes to boost brand awareness, promote new project launches and drive sales growth.

"Riak KV is the foundational database that empowers our customers to leverage their brands globally through social channels," said Noah Gift, co-founder and CTO, Sqor. "Riak and Erlang have been crucial in enabling us to scale globally through a period of rapid growth. By incorporating Solr and CRDTs, Riak KV enables our applications to always be current and responsive in today's dynamic social media environment."

Over the past quarter, existing customers, such as OneTwoTrip and mGage experienced unmatched benefits with Basho, including lowered costs, decreased engineering complexity and minimal operational effort.

"We use Riak as our primary database underpinning the delivery of travel searches and sales that span 750 airlines and over 600,000 hotels worldwide. Extending our enterprise contract and partnership with Basho was a no-brainer," said Leonid Ryaboshtan, CTO, OneTwoTrip. "Using Riak has saved us significant DevOps hours as we've been able to implement out of the box. We plan to leverage the growing search and query capabilities to help us continue to drive business forward."

"We are excited to continue our relationship with Basho. Currently we use Riak KV to support our interactive mobile platform that is delivered to clients across Europe. Using mobile phones, customers are able to interact with TV channels by voting, providing feedback and participating in contests. All of which requires us to be operational 24/7 and capable of managing high-volume activities," said Tom Rees, head of European operations, mGage. "Our nine nodes across two data centers offer enterprise multi-data center capabilities and are incredibly stable. Riak KV continues to provide us with the scale, durability and availability we need to succeed."
