Eaton Kings Mountain Plant Takes Home Coveted United Way Award

Power management company Eaton (News - Alert) today announced its Kings Mountain, N.C., transmission plant received the United Way of Cleveland County's 2014 Golden Eagle Award, presented annually to the company with the highest year-over-year increase in donations.

The Eaton Community Involvement Team (COMMIT) donated more than $32,000 in 2014 to United Way, marking a 143-percent increase over the total from 2013. Ed Faylo, plant manager, Kings Mountain, and members from COMMIT were on hand at the United Way of Cleveland County's annual business meeting and awards ceremony held on June 4, 2015 to receive the R.T. LeGrand Jr. Outstanding Campaign Volunteer of the Year Award.

"We have worked very hard to build relationships within our community over the past several years and I credit our success to the employees of the Kings Mountain facility," said Jay Powers, supervisor, Human Resources, Kings Mountain. "The employees got behind the program and worked very hard throughout the ear, and it's their hard work that made it happen."

The money raised supports several local organizations, including the Child Advocacy Center, Children's Homes of Cleveland County and the Life Enrichment Center.

Powers said COMMIT has been re-energized over the past two years by putting the day-to-day operation of the team in the hands of employees dedicated to being a force for positive change in their communities.

The United Way is just one of many organizations COMMIT supports with donations and community outreach programs. Other organizations supported include Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Foothills Farmers Market and the Cleveland County Promise.

In operation since 1976, Eaton's Kings Mountain facility employs nearly 400 employees who manufacture transmissions used primarily in the medium- and heavy-duty Commercial Vehicle markets.
