Class120 Announces Attendance Monitoring Pilot at University of Florida Athletic Department

INDIANAPOLIS, May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Florida Athletic Department will implement the Class120 college class attendance monitoring system for student-athletes in the fall of 2015.

Class120's dashboard will allow monitoring of all student-athletes selected by the athletic department.

"University of Florida athletics are proven to be national championship caliber and the leaders there are equally focused on finding innovative ways to support the academic success of their student-athletes," said Joe Montgomery, Chief Marketing Officer of Core Principle, the parent company of Class120. "We could not be more pleased at the opportunity to work with the University of Florida Athletic Department."

With patent-pending technology and proprietary campus mapping, Class120 monitors a college student's class attendance via the student's smartphone or tablet. If the device is not detected in class at a scheduled class time, automated email and SMS notifications can be triggered to coaches, athletic directors or parents. In addition, the University of Florida athletic staff will have access to a real-time dashboard with statistical analysis of attendance of all athletes, specific sports or individual athletes.

The University of Florida pilot will include the debut of two new Class120 modules for tracking tutoring attendance and improving the longstanding manual class checking process most athletic departments implement.

"We believe Class120 is a good tool to enhance our early academic alert and intervention programs," said Keith Carodine, Ph.D., Senior Associate Athletic Director of the University of Florida.

Class120 is fully optimized for mobile devices so coaches or administrators can check their dashboard in real time.

"Some major Division I athletic departments are spending $100,000 or more on hiring people to monitor student-athlete class attendance," said Joe Montgomery. "But, regardless of the athletic program size, monitoring class attendance is a challenge." Montgomery went on to say, "Class120 allows programs to monitor attendance of every student-athlete, something that, until now, has been practically impossible."

The Class120 approach is based on studies that show class attendance is the number one predictor of grades in a college course, outranking time spent studying, studying skills, high school grades or standardized tests. Core Principle offers a customizable suite of Class120 attendance monitoring software to college administrators and athletic departments, K-12 school districts and a version of the Class120 attendance monitoring system is also available directly to parents.

Class120 was featured in The Wall Street Journal article "Cracking Down on Skipping Class" (January 14, 2015) as a promising solution for students at risk of dropping out due to poor class attendance.

Core Principle announced in February that Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida is implementing Class120 starting in Spring 2015. Class120 will enable Lynn to monitor class attendance for all students using university-provided iPad devices. Class120 determines if students are present in a class and will provide Lynn University professors and administrators with a dashboard view to track attendance in real time.

Lynn University's decision to pilot Class120 was featured on NBC Nightly News on Feb. 7.

During the development of the Class120 platform, Core Principle has mapped classroom buildings for more than 3,000 American college and university campuses.
