Online Gaming Leader 888 Runs Massive VMware Application Environment on AWS with Ravello's Nested Virtualization Service

Ravello Systems today announced that 888 Holdings PLC (888), one of the world's most popular online gaming entertainment and solution providers, uses Ravello's cloud service powered by nested virtualization. 888 uses Ravello to easily and quickly stand up test environments in AWS, that are clones of its complex VMware-based production application. In addition, 888 has accelerated time to market by reducing provisioning time from weeks to 15 minutes.

At the forefront of the online gaming industry for over a decade, 888 has more than 20 million registered users across its online and mobile platforms. With 888casino, online poker, bingo, sport, mobile and social gaming, the company has been rapidly growing and expanding into new product lines and new markets.

"Our aggressive project schedules made it impossible to rely on our private cloud alone because provisioning a new environment could take several weeks and demand was highly variable," said Eran Elbaz, CIO, 888 Holdings. "To increase our agility, we wanted to use the cloud. But since the public cloud is such a different environment, it was impossible to recreate our existing virtual machines and networking setup without making invasive changes to our application. It would also require significant manual overhead and scripting to provision this complex application in the publc cloud. Using Ravello's solutions, we are able to easily create multiple identical environments for QA and certifications."

888 selected Ravello because it's technology successfully encapsulated and managed the application environment as a whole, and successfully recreated on AWS, the same complex network, application traffic flows, load balancing, firewalls and routing rules as its on-premise setup.

Rapidly provisioning new environments using Ravello's application blueprinting

With Ravello's application capsules and blueprinting capabilities, provisioning a new environment for 888's complex application has been reduced from several weeks to 15 minutes.

"Using Ravello, enterprises are now able to seamlessly use the cloud for agility and still keep costs in check by automatically starting and stopping application environments," said Benny Schnaider, co-founder and chairman at Ravello Systems. "Empowered with rapid, self-service lab environments in the public cloud, 888 is continuing to innovate and grow their business faster."
