Danica & GoDaddy 'Go Pink' to 'Put the Brakes' on Breast Cancer

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Once again this year Danica Patrick's No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet will trade its iconic "GoDaddy green" paint scheme for bright pink to promote breast cancer awareness, but this year the car will also include names of people impacted by the disease.

As part of GoDaddy's "Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer" campaign, which started last month, names of people impacted by the disease are being placed on Danica's Sprint (News - Alert) Cup car for the October 26th Martinsville race. Anyone who donates $10 or more to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) online via GoDaddy.com/Donate by 12 p.m. ET tomorrow can be part of the campaign and honor their loved one.

The 2014 Sprint Cup GoDaddy No. 10 Chevrolet dedicated to raising awareness in the fight against breast cancer was unveiled this morning in New York City on national television. Danica did the honors wearing pink sneakers and a pink shirt, as has become her tradition.

According to NBCF, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The NBCF works to educate people on the importance of early detection.

"My friend had a double mastectomy as a preemptive strike because she actually tested positive for the breast cancer gene. She went through everything and hopefully avoided it, but it hit close to home," Danica said. "I think far too many people know someone affected by this disease. We wanted to do something a little different this year, something to honor people who have fought the disease, and we wanted to do it in a way that might help drive donations."

The hope is millions of fans watching NASCAR, one of America's most-watched sports on television, will be inspired to donate. Danica is set to drive her pink GoDaddy No. 10 Chevrolet wearing her pink firesuit in the last three October races. The specially-inscribed race car hits the track October 26th in Martinsville to close out the campaign.

"GoDaddy has focused on this important cause over the past three years, and NASCAR has been an excellent platform to help raise awareness," said GoDaddy Chief Marketing Officer Barb Rechterman, whose sister is a breast cancer survivor. "You'll see our 'Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer' campaign throughout the month, on the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevy, on our websit and in social media because we are committed to the belief that every little bit counts, whether it's a small donation or simply spreading the word."

GoDaddy is also donating $50,000 to NBCF and offering customers the opportunity to Round-Up for Charity, which is a GoDaddy program in which people round up their purchases to the nearest dollar to help the cause. A few cents here and there can add up quickly. In fact, over the years, GoDaddy customers have "rounded up" to the tune of more than $1.1 million for various philanthropic organizations.

CEO Blake Irving (News - Alert) has been a champion for women's issues over his long technology career. Since his appointment as CEO in 2013, Irving has transformed the way GoDaddy represents women in its brand and advertising efforts - as well as promoting causes supporting women in technology and the battle against breast cancer. Irving has a personal connection to the women's health issue in that his mom is the longest-surviving breast cancer patient in New Mexico. "My mom is living proof of how important it is to get regular check-ups and 'fight the good fight,'" Irving said. "She's living a very active lifestyle and enjoying life, which is an inspiration. For GoDaddy, it's important we give, not only financially, but in memorable, meaningful ways that inspire more people to join the fight against breast cancer."
