Q&A with Chiefs GM John Dorsey

Feb 23, 2013 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- New Chiefs general manager John Dorsey addressed a number of topics at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday in Indianapolis: -- On whether he plans to meet with the agent for left tackle Branden Albert, a potential free agent: "He is one of a few free agents that we have that we've been in ongoing communication with his representatives. It will be an ongoing communication with his representatives and as we get into free agency, we will see where that is." -- On whether he views Albert as a left tackle: "I think a lot of football guys view him as a left tackle." -- On whether wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, another potential free-agent, would play for the Chiefs next season: "Again, it has been an ongoing communication with his representatives. We've had those discussions for the last couple weeks. We will continue to have those conversations as we get to free agency." -- On the quarterbacks the Chiefs plan to meet with at the combine: "I just can't name them off the top of my head right now, but we have anywhere between six and eight quarterbacks that we are going to sit and meet with as a group collectively." -- On the number of players the Chiefs are considering with the first overall pick in the draft: "I am considering 333 players in the combine right now." -- On whether the Chiefs would take the best available player regardless of position: "I believe in the best-available player philosophy." -- On whether that player is a quarterback: "We haven't finished the final process of evaluations. When I made that comment, it was the first phase of evaluations. It is an ongoing situation and at the end, we will see what happens, but it will be the best available player." -- On his evaluation of nose tackle Dontari Poe, last year's first-round draft pick: "I have never seen a player of his size and his strength do some of the athletic things that he's done. If you really watch him as he has developed and progressed in the 2012 season, I think he started slow. He was just beginning to get an understanding of how he was to make the transition from college to the pros. If you really watch the later part of the film, you saw a player that had some unique traits that are going to show. He's got a lot of room to be a really good player for years to come in the National Football League. He's a big man." -- On the possibility of restructuring the contract of defensive end Tyson Jackson: "Again, we're in communication with his representatives and we're just talking through some things."
