New Orleans' Party Atmosphere Perfect for the City's Tenth Super Bowl
CINCINNATI, Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
This year's Super Bowl host, New Orleans, is preparing to make this
event one to remember. Combining the Super Bowl with a celebratory,
Mardi Gras atmosphere, the 2013 Super Bowl is already exciting football
fans in and out of Louisiana.
New Orleans is getting ready to host
its tenth Super Bowl in January, tying with Miami to be labeled the city to host the most
Super Bowls. This year, the Super Bowl coincides with the city's Mardi Gras celebration.
New Orleans, already a city with a party atmosphere, is working to make
the event bigger and better by combining the 2013 Super Bowl with a
Mardi Gras celebratory feel. Some of the work the city has been doing
to achieve this includes renovations of the North Causeway, which is
undergoing a $1.4 million decorative lighting project. Additionally,
the 36-foot high roman numerals to be set up on Super Bowl Boulevard
will put on a sound and light show, and the NFL Tailgate Party is
expected to hold close to 10,000 people.
While huge preparations are going on in New Orleans, fans outside of
Louisiana are taking to the Internet to show their excitement and get
pumped up. Super Bowl fan sites such as SuperBowl360.com are emerging on the Internet, preparing fans for the Super Bowl
atmosphere before they even get to Louisiana in 2013.
Additionally, before and after the Super Bowl will be Mardi Gras
celebrations. Parades will begin on January 28th and begin again after the Super Bowl finishes, from February 6th to 12th.
In addition to creating a perfectly merged Super Bowl and Mardi Gras
event, New Orleans is also preparing for the biggest Super Bowl it has
hosted yet. The last year the city hosted the event, back in 2002, 86.6
million people watched the Super Bowl. More than 111.3 million are
expected to watch this season, which is a 28 percent increase. New
Orleans is well prepared for the expected size of January's event,
having undergone construction, renovations, and landscaping especially
for the 2013 Super Bowl. All projects are well on their way to being
completed by the January 15 deadline.
