TrueVisions partners with local firms

Dec 18, 2012 (Bangkok Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Leading pay-TV operator TrueVisions is looking to expand its cable TV audience to 3.5 million households by collaborating with 300 local cable TV operators by the end of 2013.

TrueVisions joined with 150 cable TV operators to launch a "True Cable Partners" package that offers 30 channels, of which 12 are free channels and 18 pay channels. Another 150 cable TV operators will join the alliance next year.

The 12 free channels are AF Channel, True Music, Thai Thai, TrueSelect, Hae Ha, True Life TV, Reality, True 10, True Explore 1, True Plukpanya, TNN24 and RAMA Channel.

The 18 pay channels are True Film Asia, True Thai Film, Toon Channel, Siam Sport TV, Speed Channel, Football Siam TV, Star Soccer TV, TrueSport7, Ma Jang TV, Very TV, KBS World, Chic Channel, TrueAsianSeries, IN Channel, True Explore2, Home & Food, Travel Channel Thailand and TNN2.

When its network reaches 300 cable TV operators, its viewer base will increase to 3.5 million households, which should lead advertising revenues to significantly surge in the future, said Anat Mekpaiboonvatana, managing director of TrueVisions.

The company aims to promote its contents on other platforms in addition to acting as a business consultant for other cable TV operators.

Some 80% of TrueVisions' revenue comes from subscription fees, 10% from advertising and 10% from other projects. The company expects its content business will contribute 3-5% of total revenue the next few years.

TrueVisions projects fierce competition because of the entry of new players, offering more channels for audiences.

TrueVisions lost the bid for broadcast rights of the English Premier League football for the next three seasons, which market analysts predict should be a major blow. To compensate, it will add at least 10 channels including high-definition (HD) options with a budget of up to 5 billion baht.
