K-State vs. Gonzaga in Wichita? Bruce Weber: "We are definitely looking at it"
Dec 13, 2012 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Kansas State basketball coach Bruce Weber told Wichita Eagle sports columnist Bob Lutz this morning that he "would anticipate" playing a game at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita next season. Gonzaga, which the Wildcats face in Seattle on Saturday, is a possible opponent.
"Our thoughts are, just talking with John Currie and the administrative staff, we would like to come (to Wichita) every other year," Weber said on the radio show. "I would anticipate we would be back there next year. One of the opportunities would be Gonzaga. It hasn't been finalized, but we are definitely looking at it." The Wildcats played West Virginia in Wichita last season, and the game was a success. A sellout crowd turned out, and the arena had an impressive atmosphere. K-State officials have been trying to figure out a way to return to Wichita while also maintaining its annual game at the Sprint Center.
When Weber agreed to a series of neutral-court games against Gonzaga he said the return game would be played in either Wichita or Kansas City. I asked Weber last week if he had made any progress toward picking a location for the game, and he said K-State was still debating between the two cities.
Based on his comments this morning, though, K-State may be leaning toward Wichita.
