Telstra in the big league with its $100m NRL deal

Dec 12, 2012 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- David Thodey, CEO of Telstra, has announced a new five-year rights deal with the National Rugby League (NRL). Valued at $A100m-plus, it will allow the telco to stream NRL matches to mobile devices, and also involves a major sponsorship commitment. A similar contract had been negotiated by Telstra with the Australian Football League, worth $A153m for the period of 2012 to 2016. The broadcasting rights for the NRL have been acquired for $A1.025bn by the Nine Network for free-to-air and Fox Sports for pay TV.
