Practice report: Ex-Dolphins weigh in on team's struggles
Dec 12, 2012 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Tim Bowens said the Dolphins need a No. 1 receiver and a better tight end.
-- "This community for some reason has always been fickle. They support a winner and turn their back on a loser," Manny Fernandez said.
-- Manny Fernandez said he likes the Dolphins defense and said he thinks Miami needs help on the offensive line.
-- "The reason New England explodes is they are all on the same page. They know exactly where Tom Brady wants them," Nat Moore said.
-- Nat Moore said the Dolphins are making too many little mistakes. Says they need to get "that attitude, the winning spirit."
-- "When I look at this football team I see a team that's going through growing pains," Nate Moore said of Dolphins.
-- "He's athletic. Has a darn good arm, and is very smart. One of the pluses is coming in here with his same (college) coach," Don Strock on Tannehill.
-- Tim Bowens, AJ Duhue, Manny Fernandez, Nat Moore, Earl Morrall, and Don Strock are the 6 Dolphins being inducted into the Walk of Fame.
-- "He's a guy who we want the ball in his hands, and we've got to find a way to do that," Joe Philbin on Reggie Bush.
-- "We have to do thing better to get over the hump to win games," Joe Philbin said.
-- "Our touchdown production has been very good," Philbin said of TEs. "We'd like some more explosive plays out of that group."
-- "We have to play better to win. We were very honest with the guys and told them that," Joe Philbin said.
-- "He does all the things you like to see in a quarterback. He's got good arm strength and throws with accuracy," Philbin said of Henne.
-- "They play with good energy and have very sound schemes," Joe Philbin on the Jaguars.
-- "It all depends on how quickly I do picking up this offense," Armon Binns said of playing on Sunday.
-- "He has improved every week,& he works at it...Success isn't going to come as easy as it did in college. He works at it,"Mularkey on Blackmon.
-- "I don't know if I've been around a guy who has created as many explosive catches," Mike Mularkey said of Cecil Shorts.
-- "It's his leverage. He's got great feet. His get off on the snap of the ball. His first step is what's so impressive," Mularkey on Wake.
-- "He can wreck a game. he's had a phenomenal year. He's definitely a guy who have to be aware of," Jags coach Mike Mularkey on Cam Wake.
-- Mularkey said Ryan Tannehill's athletic ability stands out. "He's one of those guys who can beat you out of the pocket throwing & running"
-- Jags coach Mike Mularkey said Chad Henne could be the starter moving forward. "It all depends on how the year ends."
-- "He's very easy to be drawn to as a player," Jags coach Mike Mularkey said of Chad Henne. "We knew what he was capable of doing."
-- Jags coach Mike Mularkey said Chad Henne's experience has benefited the Dolphins. He does extra film study and does work on side with WRs.
-- "They are playing very well, especially those guys up front who are hard to block. Swarming the ball on defense," Mike Malarkey said of D.
-- Armon Binns is a little bigger than I expected, but he'd far from a BIG WR. But more size than Marlon Moore.
-- Tannehill hits Charles Clay for a 40-plus yard reception with extra RAC.
-- Brian Hartline made a nice juggling catch for a first down. Good throw from Tannehill in the middle of the field.
-- Jason Trusnik replaced Koa Misi in the 49ers game & will get first crack at the SLBer job. But Austin Spitler & Jonathan Freeny have a shot.
-- I haven't seen Dolphins OLBer Koa Misi, who suffered a right ankle injury against the 49ers.
-- Dolphins WR Davone Bess does not appear to be practicing. It appears injury related.
-- Dolphins CB Jimmy Wilson, who missed Sunday's game because of a hip injury, is working on a limited basis.
-- Nate Garner remains the Dolphins starting right tackle. No surprise there. He played well against 49ers.
-- New Dolphins WR Armon Binns has been given No. 19. He has been given the kiss of death now.
