BRIEF: Man hit, woman threatened during Modesto home invasion robbery attempt
Dec 11, 2012 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man was hit with a gun and his girlfriend threatened with a knife during a home invasion attempted robbery in downtown Modesto on Tuesday afternoon.
A man was working in his garage with the garage door open at his home in the 400 block of Olive Avenue at about 2:15 p.m. when two Latino men approached him, said Modesto police Sgt. Pat Kimes.
They inquired about his motorcycles and the victim said they could look at them. When they entered his garage one pulled out a gun and the other a knife.
The man with the knife entered the victim's home where his girlfriend was, and demanded money. She told him she had none, Kimes said.
Meanwhile, the suspect with the gun demanded the victim close his garage door but he refused so the suspect hit him in the head with the butt of his gun. The impact caused the weapon to discharge, sending a bullet through the roof of the garage.
At that point, Kimes said the suspect with the knife came out of the house and both ran and got into a dark colored sport utility vehicle and fled the area.
Nothing was stolen from the home.
