BRIEF: Teenage student struck by vehicle in Modesto

MODESTO, Dec 10, 2012 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Modesto teenager suffered minor injuries this morning after she was struck by a vehicle while walking to school.

The 13-year-old girl was walking south in the crosswalk on College Avenue when a man driving a sports utility vehicle was making a left turn from College onto eastbound Orangeburg Avenue, according to Officer Jaime Coc of the Modesto Police Department.

His vision became obstructed, possibly by the glare of the morning sun, and his vehicle struck the girl, Cox said.

The girl flew about 15 feet onto the sidewalk. There were no apparent signs of broken bones or major injuries. The girl complained of pain, Cox said.

She was taken to a nearby hospital. Her parents were immediately notified and were at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was distraught, according to Cox, and fully cooperated with officers.
