Society of American Business Editors & Writers (SABEW) Hosts Its 50th Anniversary Conference & Gala April 4-6 in Washington, D.C.
PHOENIX --(Business Wire)--
The conference will be focused on training and education, befitting the
50th anniversary of the world's largest and oldest organization
dedicated to the betterment of business journalism.
Media leaders, sports executives, government officials and business
journalists will be among the speakers and panelists at the SABEW Spring
Conference to be held at the George Washington University in Washington,
D.C.
Robert Tanenbaum, a principal owner of the Washington Nationals baseball
team, headlines the early speaker lineup. Joining him will be David
Callaway, editor-in-chief of USA Today, and Steve Landefeld, director of
the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA (News - Alert)).
"A terrific early lineup of speakers and panelists," said Warren Watson,
SABEW executive director. "And this is only the beginning of what will
be a 50th anniversary program to remember."
Others who will be on hand:
Chris Hendricks, vice president of digital media, McClatchy Newspapers.
He will join Callaway for a panel discussion on the future of media.
<>
Brian Hamilton, CEO of Sageworks. Hamilton will be part of a discussion
of private equity companies.
More speakers, panelists and details will be announced in the next two
weeks.
Teaching sessions and social events will be held at GWU's Marvin Center,
located in the Foggy Bottom area of the District of Columbia.
Tanenbaum's Washington Nationals had the best record in baseball (98-64)
in 2012, and made the playoffs for the first time since relocating from
Montreal in 2005. Their manager, Davey Johnson, was voted National
League manager of the year, and general manager Mike Rizzo the executive
of the year.
Washington's success on the field, with exciting young players such as
pitcher Stephen Strasburg and outfielder Bryce Harper, translated to the
