Breaking down the Division 3 football quarterfinals
Nov 16, 2012 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Quarterfinal winners: Oakdale (10-1), Cosumnes Oaks (9-2), Sierra (10-1), Vista del Lago (10-1).
Oakdale is the only power run team in the bracket, and caught a nice break when Placer (11-0) went down to D4 and Yuba City (9-2) went up to D2. It beats Yuba City anyway, but Placer that would have been intriguing. Mustangs Wing-T can dictate tempo and The Corral is a loud sea of red. ... Can't wait to see Cosumnes Oaks with Alex Van Dyke and Kaelin Willhite (I remember seeing their fathers play the first time around, before Van Dyke's was All-American at Reno and Willhite's was named National Player of the Year by five publications) how do you stop two big-play kids when one slip allows them to go the distnce. ...
American Canyon's Jomon Dotson has carried his club into the quarterfinals, and he has run for at least 141 yards every week and has a high of 230. He runs into Cosumnes Oaks this Friday what a great collection of talent on one field.
Inderkum's run short on RBs, so it's been passing the ball. That's not something you'd expect, but it's working. It has the speed to stay with Sierra RB Anthony Cota, but the spread offense has taken on new life with QB Jake Pruitt throwing the bsll 12-15 times a game. ... If we get Sierra-Vista del Lago semifinal, better make sure we have a backup scoreboard for the point totals.
