Pee-wee game suspended after sheriff's deputy, referee fight

A Jackson County sheriff's deputy elbowed a referree at a 5- and 6-year-old Pee-Wee football game last Saturday, resulting in a fight between the two, a Pascagoula police report said.
Both men, then Deputy James Albin Jr., 28, of Pascagoula, and Darnell Carroll, 45, of Moss Point, are now each facing charges of disturbing the peace by fighting.
According to a Pascagoula police report requested and obtained by the Sun Herald, Albin was working the sidelines on the chains when he is caught on video "elbowing Darnell in the back of the head as Darnell is paying attention to the players on the field, starting a physical altercation."
The report said video showed "Mr. Albin walks out onto the field after a play and strikes Darnell with his elbow on the top of the chest as he attempts to pass him."
Carroll then "grabs Mr. Albin and strikes him in the back of the head," the report said.
"The black shirt that Mr. Albin was wearing was ripped off during the altercation and he was wearing the "Sheriff" shirt underneath," the report said.
Another referee continues to be aggressive with Albin, the report said, and he, Carroll and another referee are escorted off the field by others.
"Mr. Albin follows the referees and the fight begins again off camera," the report said.
Moss Point police reserve officer Travis Hutchins happened to be at the game and ended up having to "physically" restrain Albin.
Pee-wee games at the fields were suspended for the rest of the day as a result of the incident, accoring to the police report.
