BRIEF: Friday's high school roundup (non-football): HRA girls romp into state tennis final

Nov 09, 2012 (Daily Press (Newport News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- In girls tennis Friday, Top-seeded Hampton Roads Academy beat visiting Norfolk Collegiate 5-0 in a VIS Division II semifinal, winning 59 of the 64 games played.

From the first point to the last, it took about 35 minutes.

HRA will play for its second title in three years Saturday at home against Fredericksburg Academy or Foxcroft.

Navigators No. 1 Maureen Slattery, No. 2 Wiktoria Plawska, No. 3 Joyce Fields, No. 4 Grace Prillaman and No. 6 Manpreet Dhindsa won their singles pro-sets, taking 10 games apiece.

Because the victory was clinched mathematically, No. 5 Brittany Duguay's match was stopped when she was at match point, leading 9-1, 40-15.

Field hockey: There will be an all-Beach District final at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the state Group AAA tournament at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

Maddy Humphrey scored late in the first overtime to boost Cox past Mountain View 2-1, then unbeaten Princess Anne routed Stafford 10-0.
