BRIEF: Tacoma police arrest robbery suspect who matches video

Aug 30, 2012 (The News Tribune (Tacoma - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 31-year-old man suspected of robbing a grocery store and convenience store was arrested early Wednesday morning after police recognized him from surveillance footage.

The first holdup occurred at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday at Olympic Grocery, 6601 South Tacoma Way. A man entered the store, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash before running off.

The second robbery happened at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday at the new 7-Eleven store at 3005 S. Tyler St. Witnesses told police an armed man who robbed the store ran to a waiting vehicle, which was described as a maroon station wagon with loud exhaust.

A patrol officer spotted a suspect about two hours later as the man walked into a McDonald's restaurant on Pacific Avenue. The officer recognized the man by the clothes he was wearing, which could be seen on surveillance footage taken from the holdups.

Money taken in the two robberies was recovered inside a trash bin at the fast food restaurant, police said.
