BRIEF: Lions pride begins with perspiration

Aug 03, 2012 (Corning Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- That wasn't the aroma of sizzling bacon in the air at Estil Clark Park on Wednesday, rather it was the smell of pigskins being cooked in the 100-degree oven serving as the practice field for the Corning Lions.

With the 10 hours of conditioning mandated by the Northern California Federation of Youth Football behind them, players from the Might Mites all the way up to the Midgets were able to lace up the pads and strap on the helmets and hit.

There was plenty of sweat, along with a few tears, but that's to be expected as the Lions proudly prepare to defend their reputation as the most consistent program in the tri-county area.

The Corning Lions begin play in the Northern Conference Division II on Aug. 25, when they travel to Red Bluff to battle the Spartans.
