BRIEF: Police release image of suspect wanted in credit union robbery

Jun 15, 2012 (Belleville News-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police released a surveillance camera image Friday of a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery at the Catholic and Community Credit Union in Belleville.

The credit union at 6100 W. Main St. was robbed at 2 p.m. Wednesday by a man described as a dark-complected black man with pock-marked cheeks in his mid-20s, standing between 5-feet, 7-inches and 5-feet, 8-inches tall. He weighs between 165 and 180 pounds and was wearing a long-sleeved white thermal-type shirt with a silver design on the front, plaid shorts and a black baseball cap. He was last seen leaving the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled southwest on West Washington Street toward 64th Street.

Credit union employees told police the robber implied he had a weapon but did not display one.

On May 9, police also investigated a robbery at the credit union. In that robbery, a man escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. Investigators are looking into a possible connection between the two robberies.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Belleville Police at 234-1212 and ask for Detective Kraft or Detective Thomason.

Information also can be relayed anonymously by calling CrimeStoppers at 800-371-8477.
