BRIEF: No. 5 Mustang baseball tops Pella on road, 5-2
Jun 13, 2012 (Newton Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run from the plate, earning the win on the mound and ending the game with a diving play, Prairie City-Monroe senior Sean O'Connor did a little bit of everything in the Mustangs' 5-2 win over Pella Monday night.
The Class 2A No. 5 Mustangs (14-2, 8-1 Heart of Iowa Conference) scored once in the first and four times in the fourth to earn the victory over the Dutch, who scored their two runs in the sixth. O'Connor threw five innings, giving up just one unearned run on four hits and striking out three.
Senior Kody Wilkie also had a big game for PCM, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, triple and a stolen base from the plate, while also earning the two-inning save with three strikeouts on the mound. Fellow senior Bryce Wignall also added a highlight play, as he made a diving stop in the outfield and threw out a runner at second base.
PCM stays on the road tonight, heading to Nevada to start up the second half of conference play.
