BRIEF: Police seek help in identifying armed robber

RALEIGH, Jun 09, 2012 (The News & Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police are searching for a man who robbed a gas station at gunpoint late last month in North Raleigh.

The robbery occurred about 10:15 p.m. on May 31 at Kroger Fuels at 6300 Creedmoor Road, police reported.

A female clerk who was working that evening told police that a man approached her while she was outside the gas station's kiosk preparing to close, Jim Sughrue, a police spokesman, reported. The woman said the man forced her back inside the kiosk at gunpoint and took money from the cash register, Sughrue reported.

Investigators on Friday released a surveillance photo of the suspect and are hoping the public will help them identify the man. The clerk described the man as possibly being in his mid-20s, standing about 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing a white mask, a black baseball cap, dark-colored trousers and a red hoodie with the design of a stylized bird on the back.

Anyone who thinks they can identify the suspect should call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357 or to go to the Crime Stoppers website at www.raleighcrimestoppers.org to report a tip on line or by text message.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases.
