2 Bowling Green athletes face charges

Jun 01, 2012 (The Blade - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- BOWLING GREEN -- Two Bowling Green State University athletes were suspended indefinitely from their teams Thursday by the university and are facing criminal charges.

Darius Gilbert, a member of the football team, was arrested Thursday and charged with robbery while Shanique Ogle, a member of the women's basketball team, has been charged with receiving stolen property, misuse of a credit card and forgery.

Gilbert is alleged to have been involved in an altercation where he knocked a man to the ground and stole cash, a credit card, a watch and cell phone.

Gilbert is a redshirt sophomore defensive lineman from Hamilton, Ohio. He played in six games last season.

According to police reports, Ogle allegedly used two stolen credit cards for multiple purchases. She faces two felony counts and one misdemeanor count and is scheduled to appear Monday in Bowling Green Municipal Court.

Ogle, a freshman from Lorain, Ohio, played in nine games and averaged 1.7 points.

The school's athletics communications department issued a statement that said, "BGSU Athletics is aware of two separate incidents involving football player Darius Gilbert and women's basketball player Shanique Ogle. Both players have been suspended indefinitely from their respective programs. The Athletics Department will continue to work with the authorities throughout the legal process as well as with BGSU through the Student Code of Conduct." ___ (c)2012 The Blade (Toledo, Ohio) Visit The Blade (Toledo, Ohio) at www.toledoblade.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
