BRIEF: Kalida coach investigated for inappropriate communication with student

KALIDA, May 31, 2012 (The Lima News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Kalida schools employee and coach has been put on paid leave and is being investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office for allegations of having "inappropriate communication" with a student.

Jeremy Stober, 41, was put on leave May 24. Superintendent Don Horstman declined to comment on specifics of the allegations.

Putnam County Sheriff James Beutler said his office took a report May 25 from the school administration. The office is in the preliminary stages of investigating inappropriate messages. Beutler would not say what kind of messages.

Stober started at Kalida schools as a high school math teacher in 1993. He became technology coordinator in 2000. He is also head volleyball coach and assistant boys basketball and baseball coach. The school board met this morning and decided to begin looking for an interim volleyball coach.

Stober was reprimanded in 2007 for inappropriate written comments to another teacher. He could not be reached for comment today.
